The Columbia Fireflies will open the 2018 season at home against the Augusta GreenJackets on April 5. Fireworks will follow the 7:05 p.m. game marking the start of the New York Mets Class A affiliate’s third season at Spirit Communications Park.
The game is one of 26 to feature post-game fireworks on a 2018 schedule that also features 6:05 p.m. Saturday starts and four day games, including a 12:05 p.m. Memorial Day matinee. All Sunday home games will start at 2:05 p.m.
Last season, the Fireflies set a club single-season attendance record by attracting a total of 315,034 fans, averaging 4,773 per game.
“Our entire team has been planning for the 2018 season since the final out was squeezed back in September,” Fireflies team president John Katz in a news release. “After a record-breaking 2017 season, we’ve got a tremendous promotional calendar on tap for the upcoming year.”
Three May games will start at 11:05 a.m. as part of the Fireflies Reading Program, sponsored by Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, and the Fireflies’ Businesspersons’ Special promotion.
Thirsty Thursdays, with half-price domestic and craft beer, and $2 Tuesdays, featuring $2 hot dogs, popcorn and fountain sodas, return to the 2018 schedule.
