State park service reports record-setting May

State park revenue continued to rise in May, according to the latest indicators from the S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism.

State parks generated $3,796,335 in total revenue, a 30.6% increase from May 2017 and a 16.5% jump in year-to-date revenue from the previous fiscal year.

South Carolina saw a decrease in hotel revenue per available room, a performance metric calculated by dividing a hotel’s total room revenue by the room count and number of days in the period being measured.

Statewide hotel RevPAR decreased 0.4% from May of 2017 but increased 0.7% in year-to-date revenue.

In other key indicators, Charleston International Airport reported a 14% increase in deplanements in May compared to the same month in 2017. Overall, deplanements at S.C.’s five measured airports increased 10.1% for the month.

Columbia Metropolitan Airport saw an 8.3% increase in deplanements in May compared with the same month in 2017. The airport’s deplanements are up 7% year-to-date.

Admission tax figures continue to be unavailable as the S.C. Department of Revenue overhauls its reporting system.
