Five bands will compete in the National Collegiate Marching Band Championship Bowl in Columbia on Saturday.

The University of Northern Alabama Marching Band, the Delaware State University Approaching Storm Marching Band, the Great Talladega College Tornado Marching Band, the Stillman College Band and Benedict College Marching Tiger Band of Distinction will compete at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium.

The competition will be divided into two categories based on marching style. A group of judges will provide rankings and assessments. Spectators will also vote for a People’s Choice winner.

The bands will also participate in the 65th annual Carolina Carillon holiday parade.

“As a former resident of the S.C. Midlands and alumnus of the University of South Carolina, I’m thrilled that this singular new event is coming to Columbia,” Joe Allison, NCMBCB executive director, said in a news release. “The opportunity to advocate for and showcase our collegiate marching bands is one whose time has come, and we all look forward to the best our student performers have to offer.”

Tickets are on sale at www.marchingchamps.com and range from $20 to $300.
