Owner of 116 Espresso and Wine Bar leaving business

Ryan Whittaker, chef-owner of 116 Espresso and Wine Bar on State Street in West Columbia, has announced on the restaurant’s Facebook page that he is leaving the establishment.

Whittaker said his last night as owner of 116 was Wednesday.

Whittaker was not available on Wednesday afternoon, a person answering the phone at the popular brunch and happy hour spot said. He did not immediately return a message.

Whittaker said in the Facebook post that he and his wife are planning to focus on their young family.

“It is my hope that with new ownership and new energy, 116 can continue to grow and evolve into one of the best restaurants in town,” the post said. “I am beyond proud of what we've built here, and none of that would have been possible without your support.”

The March 24 Facebook past continued: “I know the new owners have some exciting plans and are looking forward to meeting you all as well. Please be sure to follow along on all of our social media for updates.”
