Lake Murray’s fireworks celebration is set to go on as scheduled on July 4, though the annual boat parade will not be held.

At dark, or approximately 9:15 p.m., a fireworks show will launch from Dreher Island and Spencer Island, according to a news release from the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board.

The show will be synchronized to patriotic music available on 97.5 FM.

“We are sad to say, due to current pandemic conditions, license, permits and other requirement we will not be holding the annual boat parade this year,” Miriam Atria, president and CEO of the tourism board, said in the release.

The Irmo parking site at the Lake Murray Dam will be open all day with a first-come, first-served capacity and a $5 fee per vehicle, according to the release. The Lexington parking site is not currently open, and it is not yet known if it will be open for the July 4 event.

“We began this holiday tradition in 1989,” Atria said. “This event has gained regional, statewide and national attention as South Carolina’s largest patriotic event and fireworks show.”

The boat parade is expected to return in 2021, according to the release.
