A popular downtown restaurant that has been a Columbia staple since 1907 will be relocating temporarily in March.
Drake’s Duck-in, known for its chicken sandwiches, burgers and other items, will be moving to a vacant restaurant space at 1840 Hampton St., according to a restaurant employee.
The relocation is necessary because of renovations taking place at the restaurant’s current location in a historic building at 1544 Main St.
The upstairs space of the building is being converted to hotel rooms as part of Hotel Trundle’s Flutter Wing expansion. Renovations to Drake’s Duck-in will include a new kitchen and dining area and new sprinkler system.
An exact date for Drake’s temporary move has not been determined yet.
Drake’s Duck-in started at a location on Elmwood Avenue in 1907 delivering meals to mill workers. It has occupied a variety of spaces on Main Street for the past 50 years.
