Ballard named general manager for Myrtle Beach-Florence TV stations

Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. has named William Ballard general manager for ABC affiliate WPDE in the Myrtle Beach/Florence market. Ballard will also oversee Sinclair’s provision of services to CW affiliate WWMB.

Ballard has more than 27 years of experience in broadcasting, including a stint as president and general manager at WIAT-TV in Birmingham, Ala. Ballard has also been general manager at stations in Miami, Philadelphia and Raleigh.

“I am thrilled to be joining Sinclair, the industry's most forward-looking media company," Ballard said in a statement.  “WPDE and WWMB are terrific television stations that exemplify broadcasting excellence.”

Sinclair is the country’s largest owner of local television stations and is bidding to acquire Tribune Media for $3.9 billion in a deal awaiting Federal Communications Commission approval.

“We welcome Bill to Sinclair and expect that he will be an effective leader,” said Steve Marks, executive vice president and COO of Sinclair’s television group. “Having served in a variety of management and sales roles throughout the television industry over the course of his career, Bill is well-prepared to work with the teams and WPDE and WWMB to make an impact on the community, our viewers, advertisers and the stations.”
