Connor Shaw, the winningest quarterback in University of South Carolina history, has joined Columbia-based insurance company Colonial Life. Shaw will work as a sales representative in the Midlands and the Upstate.

“I’m really excited about being an entrepreneur and building a business,” Shaw said in a news release.

He also leads the Gamecocks in career completion percentage (65.5%), is second in career passing touchdowns (56) and is fourth in career passing yards (6,074).

In July, he left a coaching position at Furman University before the season began for a private business opportunity.

“If being a quarterback taught me anything, it was the importance of people being there to help and protect you when you need it the most,” Shaw said. “That’s exactly why I joined Colonial Life.”

Shaw’s professional football career was cut short by injuries. He played in one NFL game, making a 2014 start for the Cleveland Browns in which he completed 14 of 28 passes for 177 yards. Shaw spent 2015 rehabbing a thumb injury before being signed by the Chicago Bears in 2016.

Last September, Shaw reached an injury settlement with the Bears after hurting his foot. In January, he was hired as the Paladins’ tight ends coach.

Colonial Life provides products including disability, life, accident, cancer, critical illness and supplemental health insurance to more than 80,000 businesses nationwide.
