S.C. sees 1,130 initial unemployment claims to close out October

For the week ending Oct. 30, 1,130 initial unemployment claims were filed in South Carolina, a drop of 95 from the previous week.  

The Upstate saw a large share of first-time claims, with Greenville County recording 107, Spartanburg County 94 and Anderson 68. Horry County had 97 claims and Richland County 72, according to data from the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce.  

A total of 6,924 claimants received an average of $248.60 in benefits for the week of Oct. 24-30. 

Nationally, initial claims fell by 14,000 from the previous week to 269,000.  

Since March 15, 2020, 933,578 initial unemployment claims have been filed in South Carolina, with DEW paying out $6.6 billion in a combination of state and federal unemployment benefits.
