Visual baby monitors, GMO foods and USB pencil sharpeners were just a few of the winning submissions from the 2017 Innovation Challenge sponsored by IT-oLogy.

This year, students and teachers will again have the opportunity to create projects using technology to solve or bring awareness to a problem in their community.

Molly Spearman, S.C. Superintendent of Education, said students in last year’s challenge took their use of technology to a whole new level.

This year’s challenge is for students in grades 3-12. K-12 teachers will also demonstrate how they integrate technology in their classroom.

Some examples of projects from last year included robotics, web design, app development, graphic design and virtual reality.

Last year’s top winner in the high school division was the team of Samuel Cathcart and Abhimanyu Sailesh of Blythewood High School. Their project was a portable element synthesizer.

Projects must be submitted by Sept. 7. For more information, visit https://www.it-ology.org/getconnected/programs/innovation-challenge/.
