A Lexington grocery store owner has been arrested and charged with operating a business without a retail license.

S.C. Department of Revenue agents arrested Natalia Sokil, 44, of Spartanburg on Thursday. According to a news release, Sokil was operating European Market without a valid retail license and was told to close the business by revenue department personnel.

On June 24, SCDOR agents bought items at the store and were charged sales tax, according to the release.

European Market, located at 5483 Sunset Blvd., opened in January.

If convicted, Sokil faces a fine up of to $200 and/or 30 days in jail, along with the cost of prosecution. She is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center pending a bail hearing.
