Mogul, a privately-owned company that produces and sells nonwovens, plans to hire 38 people in opening Mogul South Carolina Nonwovens Corp. in Laurens County, its first North American operation. The company’s $17.6 million investment includes purchasing a 91,000-square-foot building in Gray Court.

Established in 1997 and based in Gaziantep, Turkey, the company makes an array of nonwovens and coated and laminated fabrics and products. The plant at 100 ISO Poly Parkway will make spun-lace products for medical, hygienic and personal wet wipes applications. Mogul also expects to use the plant to expand its product line.

Hiring is expected to start in September, and the company plans to have the plant operating in the second quarter of 2016.

Mogul Tekstil A.S. Founder and Chairman Ekrem Kayali said the company through the new plant “will be able to better serve our North American customers with our diverse offerings of quality nonwoven products.”

Mogul operates two manufacturing plants in Turkey, at Gaziantep and a new production facility near the Istanbul area.

Laurens County Council Chairman Joseph Wood Jr. said the company will be able to start operations much quicker by locating in the existing building.
