Pro Towels, a promotional product supplier, is investing $1.7 million in an expansion of its operation in Abbeville County. Started in 2006 when Towels Etc. acquired Professional Towel Mills, Pro Towels products include beach, golf, fitness and rally towels, bathrobes, blankets and sweatshirts.

The privately held, Pittsburgh-based firm also operates a facility in California.

Last month, Pro Towels announced its acquisition of Vancouver-based Kanata Blanket Co. and plans to partially relocate Kanata operations into Pro Towels’ existing 300,000-square-foot Abbeville County facility. To accommodate the increased production, the company will upgrade the building at 234 Industrial Park Road and invest in new machinery.

The company said it expects to add 50 jobs with the expansion. Hiring is expected to start in mid-2016, and the expansion is projected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020.

“Abbeville has been an ideal home for us, and the strength of the local community and its high-quality workforce will continue to be the backbone of our success,” said Pro Towels President Kevin Nord.

Abbeville County Council Chairman Bryan McClain said Pro Towels “has been a large part of Abbeville County for many years, and it is exciting to see their continued commitment to our community.” He said the “expansion shows that the business climate in Abbeville is continuing to grow.”
