Alkane Truck Co., a Myrtle Beach-based truck manufacturer, plans to expand to Summerville to build a new product line of alternative fuel vehicles.

Full production of the Alkane Class 7 cab-over trucks will begin at the 100,000-square-foot facility in the first quarter of 2016, according to a news release from the S.C. Department of Commerce.

Alkane plans to create 300 automotive technician jobs in Dorchester County within two years. The company is leasing an existing facility.

The new trucks will be sold through the company’s network of about 130 dealerships in the United States and Canada.

“We truly have an amazing story from our inception several years ago to the introduction of our Class 7 truck today. We have the first and currently the only cab-over truck of this weight class powered exclusively with either LPG (liquid propane autogas) or CNG (compressed natural gas) in America; that is special,” Alkane CEO Bob Smith said in the release.

Founded in 2012, Alkane Truck Co. produces medium-duty trucks, medium-heavy trucks and heavy-duty tractors that run on liquid propane autogas, compressed natural gas or liquid natural gas.

“By choosing to locate here, Alkane sends a powerful message to truck and automotive companies around the world reinforcing just how competitive we have become,” Anita Zucker, chairwoman of the board of the Charleston Regional Development Alliance said in the release.
