Sonoco increasing paper-based tubes and cores prices

Listen to this articleSonoco is increasing prices for its paper-based tubes and cores by a minimum of 6% in the United States and Canada, the Hartsville-based global packaging company announced Thursday.
The price increase will take effect with shipments beginning July 16, the company said in a news release.
“The price increase is necessary due to ongoing increases in uncoated recycled paperboard, the largest input cost for tubes and cores,” Doug Schwartz, division vice president of sales and marketing, said. “URB demand remains strong and the marketplace is extremely tight, with operating rates pushing 100%.”
Schwartz also cited rising transportation costs related to new driver regulations.
Sonoco is one of the largest North American producers of paperboard tubes and cores, which are used in the paper, textile, plastic film and tape industries.
