Sumter County bearing manufacturer SKF has announced a $26 million expansion expected to create 10 new jobs.

The company plans to add a new line of design and install state-of-the-art equipment and handling systems at its two facilities on Corporate Circle in Sumter, according to a news release from S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster’s office. The expansion is in response to increased demand, the company said.

SKF manufactures bearings of all sizes serving the military, medical, semiconductor and standard catalogue industries.

The expansion is expected to be completed by December 2020.

“SKF is proud to have a home here in Sumter,” Markus Jakob, SKF Sumter director of operations, said in the release. “We are committed to world-class manufacturing and providing a world of reliable rotation through a talented and engaged workforce. We are grateful for the collaborative efforts of local government and community officials in establishing a business-centric environment where SKF can feel confident in investing in our facility and creating valued jobs.”
