Malaysia-based Scientex Packaging Film is investing $43 million to establish operations in Lancaster County. The new plant is expected to create 69 jobs, according to a news release from Gov. Henry McMaster’s office.

This is the second facility Scientex Packaging Film will have in the United States. According to the Scientex Packaging Film website, the company also has a location in Phoenix.

“Lancaster County provides an ideal location for Scientex to manufacture products for our customers in the eastern half of the United States,” said Goh Tian Chin, Scientex senior general manager, in a news release. “The county and state of South Carolina have been incredible to work with and assisted us immensely with our building search, due diligence and community evaluation.”

Scientex Packaging Film manufactures custom films, shrink films, polyethylene films, tubes, bags and lamination. It exports to more than 60 countries.

The plant will be built on Grace Avenue in Lancaster and will be equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and technology. Operations are expected to begin by January 2021.
