Boat designer and manufacturer Xplor Boatworks LLC will invest more than $3.4 million in its Richland County operations in an expansion expected to create 63 jobs.

Founded in 2017, Xplor Boatworks makes specialty recreational watercraft and is working on new skiff and center console boats up to 33 feet long. The Richland County-based manufacturer, located at 1124 Pineview Drive in Columbia, plans to purchase its existing location and expand it to increase capacity, according to news releases from Richland County and S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster’s office.

“We are very excited and proud to be part of the boat manufacturing industry here in Columbia,” Hugh Huston, Xplor Boatworks managing director and CFO, said in a news release. “This location provides us all of the resources we could wish for, including a wealth of experienced and talented people who have been enormously helpful in developing and growing our company. We would all like to pass on our gratitude to the state of South Carolina, Richland County and the local community for the enthusiasm and support they have all shown.”

The facility is slated to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2020. Those interested in employment opportunities can visit https://xplorboatworks.com/contact/.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development awarded Richland County a $100,000 Set-Aside grant for project-related costs.

“Richland County is always pleased to assist a rapidly growing business like Xplor Boatworks LLC,” Richland County Council Chair Paul Livingston said. “The company's plan to purchase their current location and expand at that site demonstrates their commitment to continued growth here in Richland County, providing more jobs and opportunities in our community.”
