An international chemical company has broken ground on a $20 million Richland County production facility that will be its first U.S. plant.

Miwon Specialty Chemical Co. USA broke ground Tuesday on a 65,000-square-foot facility at Pineview Industrial Park at 1700 Longwood Road. South Korea-based Miwon, a subsidiary of Miwon Specialty Chemical Co. Ltd., produces and supplies raw materials for ultraviolet and electron beam markets that are used in food packaging inks, coatings for wood, plastic and metal, and adhesives for DVDs and mobile phones.

The Pineview Industrial Park facility is expected to begin production in the first quarter of 2021 and to create 25 jobs. Hiring is set to begin later this year.

Employment information is available online or by emailing inquiries@usaplant@mwc.co.kr.

“This is a very important step for us, as this will be the first production plant in the United States invested by Miwon Specialty Chemical of Korea,” H.W. Kim, parent company chairman and CEO, said. “Through this new investment, we hope to increase our presence on a global basis, especially in the USA.”

Miwon announced plans for the Richland County facility in 2019.
