A steel pipe manufacturer is expanding its Richland County operations with a $40 million investment expected to create 100 jobs.

American SpiralWeld Pipe Co., a subsidiary of American Cast Iron Pipe Co., manufactures steel pipe up to 144 inches in diameter for applications including structural pilings and water distribution and collection lines. The Birmingham, Ala.-headquartered company also manufactures ductile iron pipe, valves and hydrants for the waterworks industry and electric resistance-welded steel pipe for the energy industry.

The multi-phase expansion of its operations at 2061 American Italian Way is expected to be completed by 2025. For employment information, visit the company’s career page at https://american-usa.com/careers.

“We are excited to expand our operations in Columbia and are proud to be a part of this community for more than 20 years,” Patrick Hook, American SpiralWeld Pipe Co. vice president of operations, said in a news release.

American’s product line also includes fire pumps, castings for large machinery, and specialty rubber products. Its Columbia facility has been operating since 1999.

“With more than 20 years in business in Richland County, American SpiralWeld Pipe Company has been a valuable employer in our community,” Richland County Council Chair Paul Livingston said. “The council is excited to see this company continue to invest here by creating new jobs.”

The S.C. Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project and awarded a $200,000 grant to Richland County to assist with project-related costs.
