Pet Supplies Plus, a full-service pet supply retail company, is investing $53 million to establish a new distribution center in Orangeburg County expected to create 275 jobs.

The distribution center will be located in the Shamrock Commerce Center at the intersection of U.S. 301 and I-26 at Exit 154, according to a press release from economic development organization Central South Carolina Alliance. The new operation will be the company’s fourth such center in the U.S. and designed to increase its distribution capabilities around the Southeast.

“Pet Supplies Plus’s decision to locate in Orangeburg County is a testament to our quality workforce, unique location and pro-business environment,” said Johnnie Wright Sr., chairman of Orangeburg County Council. “We are truly grateful for their investment in our county and our citizens.”

Founded in 1988, Pet Supplies Plus is a subsidiary of Franchise Group Inc. and one of the largest pet retail franchises in the U.S., featuring a large inventory of natural pet foods, goods and services. The company has more than 630 stores in 40 states, the majority of which are independently owned and operated by franchisees.

“The new distribution center is a win-win for the Orangeburg community, Pet Supplies Plus and pet parents across the U.S.,” said company CEO Chris Rowland. “The distribution center will create highly desirable logistics jobs as well as allow for efficient distribution of a wide assortment of products to the region.”

Operations are expected to begin in early 2023, with RecruitSC helping with the recruitment process. The company’s careers page has more information on employment opportunities.
