The Sisters of Charity Foundation, a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System, has made grants totaling $95,000 to five state organizations to help support the ministries of Catholic Women Religious in South Carolina, which provide services to individuals and families living in poverty.

The Collaboration for Ministry Initiative began in 2003 and has established schools, hospitals and social service programs.

The grant recipients are:

  • Felician Center (Williamsburg County) – Funding will go to employ a part-time assistant director who will assist in developing programs and activities of the Learning Center. These programs include life skills, health issues, computer, cultural and recreational opportunities.
  • Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Services, Inc. (Charleston County) – Funding will support people through comprehensive case management, goal setting and encouraging clients toward self-sufficiency.
  • St. Cyprian Outreach Center (Georgetown County) – Funding will support “Getting Ahead” project that teaches self-help and life skills programs. The program features 10 modules taught over 20 weeks.
  • St. Francis Center (Beaufort County) – Funding will support an emergency home repair program that will serve economically disadvantaged families in northern Beaufort County. It will also support a migrant farmer outreach program with food, toiletries, shoes and new toys for kids.
  • Thumbs Up Inc. (Beaufort County) – Funding will be used to hire a part-time contracted consultant, transporting parents to counseling and materials for parent training in a pilot program dealing with family intervention.
