Ten S.C. charities have been announced as Angels of 2019 by S.C. Secretary of State Mark Hammond.

The organizations honored exemplify charitable giving in the state, with selections based on a review of financial reports as well as nominated from the public, according to a news release from Hammond’s office.

An Angel charity must have devoted at least 80% of its total expenditures to charitable programs; have been in existence for three or more years; make good use of volunteer services; receive minimal funding from grants; and be in compliance with the South Carolina Solicitation of Charitable Funds Act.

The Angel organizations, with the percentage of expenditures spent on program services, are listed below in alphabetical order:

Additionally, Water Missions International of North Charleston was designated as an Honorary Angel.

Charities are traditionally named Angels once in order for as many organizations as possible to be recognized.

Hammond also released the 2018-19 Wise Giving & Professional Solicitor Report, which provides giving tips for donors and lists professional solicitor contracts currently on file with the Secretary of State’s office.
