“By doing what you love,
you inspire and awaken the hearts of others.”

City of birth: Toccoa, Ga.
Education: B.S.in civil engineering, University of South Carolina
Your job: Director of business development, Cohn Construction Services LLC
The best thing about my job: The creativity of my team encourages me when I pursue new projects and clients. All of our projects are different, therefore no day is the same. This enables me to arrive at work fresh and ready to help our company continue to grow and succeed.
Community involvement: Community outreach is a large part of my life and the involvement in these organizations makes me a stronger person. I recently rolled off of the American Society of Civil Engineers Midlands Board after 10 years. The board positions I currently hold are the Columbia Museum of Art Contemporaries and serve as the art acquisitions co-chair, the Palmetto Health Foundation Cancer Centers and serve on the Founding Leadership Team for the Cavalry and the Central South Carolina Alliance Committee of 100. I am also an active membership committee member for S.C. Economic Development Association, Leadership Columbia Alumni Association and COR.
Something I wish I’d known earlier in my career: Women discuss worklife balance frequently and it is a tough, real situation that many women are faced with. The only way to overcome its challenges is to have a strong support system and realize you can’t do it all. I was raised to work hard at everything in life, but there is no way to prepare yourself that everything will not come easy.
Advice to other women: Success for women only occurs when your dreams get bigger than your excuses. Never let your daily challenges get in the way of reaching your personal and professional goals in life.
