Nephron Pharmaceuticals president and CEO and Lou Kennedy has been honored by Ernst & Young as its Health Care Entrepreneur of the Year for the Southeast.

Kennedy, who also chairs the S.C. Chamber of Commerce, received the award June 27 in Atlanta, according to a news release. She will compete for the Ernst & Young national entrepreneur of the year award to be presented in November.

“I am grateful that EY recognizes the hard work our team does every day to deliver safe, effective and affordable drugs to patients, focusing on opioid-free pain treatment,” Kennedy said in the release. “As president of a global leader in life-saving drug manufacturing, I hope this award serves as a reminder that women are leading the fight to improve lives across the country and world, and at Nephron, like so many women-owned businesses, we are just getting started.”

The EY entrepreneur of the year award identifies leaders of fast-growth companies who are making a difference for their communities through innovation.

Nephron is a certified woman-owned business, recognized by the National Women Business Owners Corporation. The workforce at Nephron is 44% women, who hold the majority of all advanced degrees at the company, according to the release.
