The Columbia Conference Center, located near interstates 26 and 20 on St. Andrews Road, will close on Dec. 31.

Opened by local businessman Mike DuBose in 2003, the 40,000-square-foot facility has played host to nearly 5,000 meetings, weddings and social events, according to a news release. The center has also provided on- and off-site catering services and housed other businesses owned by the DuBose family, including Research Associates, The Evaluation Group, DuBose Web Group and DuBose Fitness Center.

“When my family and I opened Columbia Conference Center, our goal was to build a first-class, state-of-the-art meeting facility,” DuBose said in the release. “It was an exciting experience working with architect Derek Gruner and Hood Construction to bring our creative vision to life.”

In July, DuBose sold the building to a nonprofit health care provider in a transaction facilitated by Colliers International’s Allen Wilkerson. The facility will serve as a headquarters for the health care provider’s 100 employees as well as a training center.

DuBose plans to retire next month.

Events scheduled for the remainder of the year will be unaffected, and the center will continue accepting business until Dec. 31. Staff members are helping customers with events booked for 2019 find other venues.
