A new entertainment venue is coming to Main Street to the space formerly occupied by Zoe’s Kitchen.
Mashburn Construction confirmed plans for Market on Main at 1320 Main St. The Columbia-based contractor is doing upfit work on the new space.
Mashburn shared details of the project, which will include an 18-tap self-pour beer, wine and kombucha wall, a 20-foot LED screen for outdoor viewing of sporting events and movies, an outdoor cooking area and patio and an elevated stage, on social media earlier this week. A company spokesperson said Wednesday that an official project announcement will be coming soon.
Mashburn is involved in several downtown construction projects, including a new Holiday Inn slated to open later this year at 1233 Washington St. Company president Lee Mashburn told the Columbia Regional Business Report for an upcoming article about the hotel and the growth of the Sumter/Washington street corridor that investing in downtown ventures is an important part of Mashburn’s business strategy.
“We believe strongly that your town is only as good as your downtown,” Mashburn said. “Nationwide, it’s a trend that everybody’s coming back and everybody wants to be a part of downtown and in downtown. The growth now is kind of building from the city out in a lot of areas, and in a lot of areas across the country.
“We want to be right in the middle of it. We want to be a part of the community. Part of our vision statement is to build better communities, and that’s very important to us.”
Zoe’s, a Texas-based Mediterranean restaurant chain which has area locations in Forest Acres, Irmo and Lexington and on Two Notch Road, closed its downtown location last August after six years.
