Columbia residents are invited to take part in a new community initiative launched by local real estate firm The Moore Co.

The Flip & Give project will let online voters help design a house in the Shandon neighborhood to be flipped by the real estate firm. Once the house is sold, the net proceeds will be donated to local charities chosen through online voting.

The Moore Co. is inviting the public to help flip a house on Duncan Street in Shandon. (Photo/Provided)Voters can select options for 10 features in the house, located at 3317 Duncan St., beginning Wednesday. The public will weigh in on choices such as the master bathroom floor plan, roof color and cabinet design, as well as tile, granite and lighting options. Votes will be staggered during the next several months, according to a news release from The Moore Co.

Voters can also nominate nonprofits to receive the sale proceeds on the company’s website. Nominations will be narrowed down by an advisory team, and the public will choose the winning charities in a final vote.

Graeme Moore and Justin Drafts, owners of The Moore Co., purchased the house last year. The renovations are expected to take six months.

“We are extremely excited to share this project with the local community,” Moore said.  “We love helping our clients buy and sell homes. So many of them are interested in renovating, and this will give them a chance to experience it firsthand. The opportunity to help garner engagement for a great cause is something we’re fired up about.”
