Talk about being a good neighbor.
“We really wanted to come up with something cool to get customers in here to see the new building,” said Delaney Love, Love Mitsubishi internet manager and daughter of company president Michael Love. “We felt weird calling it a grand opening, since we’ve been here so long.”
A staff brainstorming session produced a winning idea: Until Saturday, July 2, customers who purchase a new car at Love Mitsubishi will receive a $1,000 Walmart gift card.
The buzz has already begun.
“We’ve given away our first set of gift cards - $5,000 so far,” Love said. “We have $20,000 in gift cards, with hopes that we will have to go purchase more. A thousand-dollar gift card - you can do a lot with that.”
The new Walmart Neighborhood Market will open in Love’s former showroom on June 29.
The markets are smaller than the retail giant’s typical 160,000-square-foot supercenters and emphasize food and select household products.
“We’ve been here quite some time. People know our name,” Love said. “We wanted to start the relationship off right.”
When plans for the market were announced last May, Cayce officials hoped its arrival would address needs for a grocer at the city’s western edge and improvements to the intersection of Knox Abbott and Charleston Highway. Initial concern about the project faded when residents realized the site was not going to become the seventh Walmart supercenter in the area, neighborhood and local business leaders said.
