Duck Donuts hosted a ribbon-cutting Thursday night at its first Columbia-area store. Owned by Katie McCanna, the store is located at the Cross Hill Market.
“I became familiar with Duck Donuts after a location opened in Greenville, N.C., and I witnessed the town’s excitement,” McCanna said. “I am thrilled to be opening a location in Columbia, serving the community warm, delicious and made-to-order donuts, while having the opportunity to make my dreams of owning my own business come true.”
The 1,800-square-foot retail store reflects the franchise’s beach theme and is furnished with indoor and outdoor seating. In addition to donuts, the Columbia location also serves Duck Donuts’ signature coffee blends—Riptide Roast, Light House Blend, and Sunset Pier Decaf, tea, donut sundaes featuring Breyer’s ice cream and select retail items.
Customers can choose from a variety of topping combinations for their donuts, including favorites such as chocolate icing with sprinkles and more adventurous creations such as maple icing with bacon.
Donuts at this location, which opened Monday, will be made fresh to order seven days a week, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Duck Donuts was founded in 2006 by Russ DiGilio in Duck, N.C. There are currently 48 open franchises and more than 120 contracts. The company also has a store in Hilton Head Island.
