The Hunter-Gatherer Brewery and Alehouse’s second location is set to open tonight at the Curtiss-Wright Hangar at Owens Field.
The 13,000-square-foot former airplane hangar adjoins the Jim Hamilton-L.B. Owens Airport and features a tap room and an observation deck overlooking the airport.
Kevin Varner, who opened the Hunter-Gatherer’s popular Main Street location in 1995, had hoped to open the second location last month, but equipment issues delayed the big event.
Patrons can expect to find the same pale ales, porters and ESB – extra special/strong bitter – beers offered downtown. The increased space will also allow Varner to brew some different varieties, such as a lager.
But Varner doesn’t intend to get too fancy.
“We’re still going to stick to sort of doing it the traditional way,” he said. “We’ve never made beer with any other ingredients other than the normal beer stuff.”
