GreenWise Market, an offshoot of Publix, will open Wednesday at Lexington Marketplace.

National real estate service firm The Shopping Center Group secured the lease in partnership with Southeast real estate development firm Columbia Development, according to a news release from both companies.

The location will be the Publix-owned grocery store’s second in South Carolina and first in the Midlands. The store’s name is derived from Publix’s organic food brand.

“GreenWise Market is rapidly expanding across the state and is the ideal replacement for The Fresh Market, the former tenant that is exiting the market,” said Darrell Palasciano, senior leasing advisor for TSCG’s Carolinas Division. “GreenWise’s customer base is consistent with Lexington’s growing population and will take huge steps towards solidifying Lexington Marketplace as a necessity retail destination for the local community.”

GreenWise Market features organic and specialty products, prepared foods, imported cheeses and sausage made in-store. Many stores include a drink bar where shoppers can purchase kombucha on tap, smoothies, locally roasted coffee and craft beer.

The first GreenWise Market opened in 2018 in Tallahassee, Fla. The chain has an S.C. location in Mount Pleasant.

The grocery store joins Hobby Lobby and ULTA Beauty at the 135,000-square-foot retail center located at Sunset Boulevard and Saluda Springs Road. The shopping center also is home to a Smoothie King, MOD Pizza and other local retailers.

Palasciano said TSCG is in preliminary discussions with several national retailers for space adjacent to Hobby Lobby. Columbia Development plans to add up to 26,000 square feet of additional retail to Lexington Marketplace in 2020, according to the release.
