Flying Saucer Draught Emporium is closing its Vista location after 16 years.

Nicholas Scofield, Flying Saucer Columbia manager, told the Columbia Regional Business Report that the bar will be closed “at this time next week.”

“We had a pretty good run of 16 years of educating Columbia on beer,” he said.

The craft beer bar chain’s Columbia location announced its closing on Facebook on Wednesday, addressing “Beerknurds,” the company’s name for aficionados. Within two hours of its posting, the Facebook announcement had 235 comments and 220 shares.

The Senate Street location’s last call will be Tuesday.

Flying Saucer Draught Emporium was founded in 1995 in Fort Worth, Texas, and has 16 locations in Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Missouri and Arkansas. Columbia is its only S.C. location, offering a variety of imported and domestic beers and a pub-style menu.

The establishments feature a UFO Club for members who have sampled 200 beers. Those prolific quaffers receive a commemorative plate in a Ring of Honor.

The Facebook post encouraged Ring of Honor members to pick up their plates this weekend and said other Flying Saucer locations will honor Columbia membership cards.

The closest Flying Saucer locations to Columbia are in Charlotte and Raleigh.

“So, come hang, hug your bartender, and help us kick these kegs,” the post said. “Cheers and thanks for everything.”
