The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority, better known as The Comet, launched the Soda Cap Connector and the Blythewood Express on Friday at Coble Plaza in Columbia.

The Soda Cap Connector is a system of dedicated routes that connects to major Columbia destinations including the South Carolina State Museum, The Vista, Main Street District, The Statehouse, Five Points, Benedict College and Allen University.

The service will run Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as a pilot. The first six months will be free.

The Blythewood Express is an express service that provides a park-and-ride option for the town of Blythewood to connect residents to the downtown corridor.

“It is important to have mobility options that fit the needs of all citizens of Richland County.  We are proud to launch a Park-and-Ride Express service for the town of Blythewood and the Soda Cap Connector downtown circulator that connects people to major parts of the city,” said Ann August, interim executive of The Comet. “The Transportation Penny was passed in order for us to implement these services that benefit the community as a whole.”

There will be surveys taken for both services during the pilot to improve the service for future use.
