Bike lanes will be removed as part of a lane reversal on Farrow Road from Columbia College Drive to E. Campanella Drive, the city of Columbia said.

On Tuesday, the city will begin returning Farrow Road to its previous four-lane configuration, removing two bike lanes and restoring traffic to two northbound lanes, two southbound lanes and a middle turn lane.

“Based on a significant amount of feedback provided by residents from the communities in the area, a decision was made to move forward with a lane reversal and return that section of Farrow Road back to its original state,” City Manager Teresa Wilson said in a news release. “We are taking this action in order to be responsive to our citizens and move forward based on information received during the recent public meetings.”

The city will work with the S.C. Department of Transportation and an approved contractor. Milling and resurfacing of the two outer lanes is expected to begin in mid-July. Current traffic controls will remain in place during resurfacing, with two-way traffic maintained throughout the process, the city said.

In other area transportation news, lanes along parts of Interstate 26 in West Columbia will be closed today through Thursday from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. as S.C. Electric & Gas crews perform overhead electrical line work.

The work will take place half a mile east of mile marker 113 and require closures of the westbound inside lane, the eastbound outside lane and the westbound shoulder.
