A public meeting on the proposed plans for phase 2 of the Shop Road extension project, funded by the Richland County Transportation Penny Program, will be held Thursday.

The meeting, to be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Bluff Road Park at 148 Carswell Drive, will include informational displays on the proposed project design. Residents will have an opportunity to comment on that design.

Residents can also submit written comments until Dec. 21 to the Richland County Department of Transportation at P.O. Box 192, Columbia, S.C., 29201 or by email at TransportationPenny@richlandcountysc.gov.

The second phase of the project would extend Shop Road from its current terminus at Longwood Road, under construction as part of phase 1, to the intersection of Garners Ferry Road and Trotter Road. The extension would initially include a two-lane road and a right-of-way acquisition for a future four-lane road.

A timeline for the project includes a second public meeting and the start of property negotiations in 2020, with construction slated to start in 2022.
