City to provide free parking during holidays

The city of Columbia will offer free parking in several locations during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

On Dec. 24, meter parking will be free, except in Five Points. Timed parking limits will be enforced to facilitate space turnover. On Dec. 25, parking will be free city-wide.

City parking deck gates will be raised at 3 a.m. Dec. 24 until 3 a.m. Dec. 26, and free parking will be available from Dec. 22 through Dec. 25 at the state parking facility at 2221 Devine St.

Meter parking will be enforced on Dec. 31 but free city-wide on Jan. 1, except in Five Points, with time restrictions enforced. City parking deck gates will be raised at 5 p.m. Dec. 31 until 3 a.m. on Jan. 2. Gates will be raised at all city parking facilities from Jan. 1 until 3 a.m. Jan. 2.

Free parking is available after 6 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturday and Sunday at 1101 Taylor St., 1100 Washington St., 1227 Taylor St. and 1700 Sumter St.
