Motorists in Northeast Columbia can expect traffic shifts during the next several weeks as road construction to widen Clemson Road from two to five lanes continues.

Crews are paving newly created outer lanes on Clemson Road from Chimneyridge Drive to Quality Court, creating new traffic patterns in the northbound and southbound lanes, according to a news release from Richland County.

Roadwork is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Drivers should seek alternate routes to avoid delays if possible.

Construction is estimated to be 75% complete on the project, which is widening Clemson Road from Old Clemson Road to Sparkleberry Crossing. Shared-used paths for cyclists are pedestrians are also being added between Old Clemson Road and Chimneyridge Drive.

The project, which began in early 2019, and is expected to be completed early next year.
