Work will begin next month to improve traffic flow and safety at the Village at Sandhill intersection in Northeast Columbia.

New left-turn signals will be installed at all intersection approaches at Fashion and Forum drives near Two Notch Road, according to a news release from Richland County. Traffic signal timing will also be updated.

The Department of Public Works project will begin on or around Nov. 2. It is expected to take a few weeks and cost $95,000.

Residents had expressed concerns about traffic safety and delays at the intersection, according to the release. Earlier this month, an engineering traffic study confirmed the need for new left-turn signals.

In an effort to reduce delays, most of the outdoor work will take place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. during a two-night period, with the remaining work taking pace in the signal cabinet. Temporary traffic control signs will direct drivers while work is ongoing.
