Roadwork involving a new Garners Ferry Road connector begins today and is expected to take about two weeks to complete.

East and westbound traffic along Garners Ferry and its median near the Garners Ferry Sports Complex will be affected by paving work being done by crews contracted by the Richland County Transportation Department. The paving will typically take place from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and will involve temporary lane closures, according to a news release from Richland County.

The project’s focus is Garners Park Road, a new two-lane, half-mile stretch connecting Garners Ferry and Rabbit Run roads. Garners Park Road is in the final stages of paving, according to the release, and a multi-use path along the road is also nearly complete.

The project is part of the Southeast Richland Neighborhood Master Plan included in Richland County’s Transportation Penny Program. The master plan includes two multi-use paths: one on Rabbit Run Road connecting Garners Park Road with Lower Richland Boulevard, and one on Lower Richland Boulevard connecting Rabbit Run Road with Lower Richland High School. Work to correct a drainage problem on Rabbit Run Road has been completed.

Richland County expects to finish all projects in the master plan by this summer.
