The baseball field at Pinehurst Park is being spruced up through a partnership with the Columbia Fireflies, Segra and Echo Tools.

Pinehurst Park, located off Harrison Road near Two Notch Road, was identified by the city of Columbia as a place that could benefit from the partnership, begun in November through an agreement with Minor League Baseball and Echo Tools to award 10 grants throughout the country to help rehabilitate youth playing fields in communities with minor league teams.

The Pinehurst Park rehab will take place Wednesday and Thursday, with Fireflies front office personnel and Echo Tools getting to work.

“The city of Columbia identified Pinehurst Park for us to help bring some great programs back to the neighborhood, and we are excited to be part of that, Fireflies team President John Katz said in a news release.

The Fireflies and Segra, through the K’s for Kids program, have also donated $10 for each strikeout recorded at Segra Park during the past three seasons toward the field rehabilitation project.
