Residents can weigh in on flood mitigation funding today

A virtual meeting will be livestreamed at 5:30 p.m. on the county’s YouTube page, www.youtube.com/user/richlandonline/videos.
Richland County will receive $21.9 million in Community Development Block Grant-Mitigation funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The funds are earmarked to help mitigate risk and reduce future losses from the historic October 2015 flood, which caused extensive damage to residential and business property and infrastructure throughout the county.
Residents can submit questions and comments by sending names and email addresses to mitigation@richlandcountysc.gov to receive a meeting invitation. The Richland County Community Planning & Development Department will accept comments and questions in advance and until the meeting ends.
All feedback will be submitted to HUD, according to a news release from Richland County.
The county’s proposed mitigation plan is available online.
