The South Carolina Department of Transportation is hosting public information sessions about two Midlands projects.

SCDOT employees will provide information and answer questions about the replacement of the U.S. 76 bridges over U.S. 15 and U.S. 76 Business in Sumter. At a separate meeting, people can learn about planned safety improvements at the intersection of St. Peters Road and Old Cherokee Road in Lexington.

On Sept. 10, people in Sumter can get more information and provide written comments on the bridge replacements between 5 and 7 p.m. at Harmony Church, located at 1021 Sterling St. Click here for more information on the project. One current bridge has been classified as “functionally obsolete” and the other has been designated “substandard.”

The Lexington meeting is scheduled for Sept. 12 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.  at New Providence Elementary School, located at 1118 Old Cherokee Road. The intersection was selected through the Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program to help reduce the frequency and severity of crashes there. Click here for information on the project.

SCDOT will have displays, handouts and comment forms available.
