The University of South Carolina is receiving a $55,000 cooperative agreement for archaeological research from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Park Service.

USC will develop an outreach and educational program through a re-analysis of the park’s past archaeological research as well as train youth scholars to assist with the project, according to a news release. The university will also present public talks and community outreach featuring research findings.

NPS will also fund two paid student internships, though university researchers will train and oversee the internets. The interns’ work, which will include artifact analysis, document research and data processing, will be incorporated into a final report produced by USC.

As many as five student volunteers will assist in the geophysical investigation, according to the release.
