C-SPAN’s state-of-the-art, 45-foot customized motor coach is visiting four S.C. schools tomorrow and Wednesday as part of its Top Teachers Tour recognizing social studies teachers for excellence and leadership.

Students, community members and elected officials will be able to take part in interactive demonstrations of C-SPAN’s public service resources, including a high-definition TV production studio for taped and live programming and a smart TV and classroom area for conversations with students and teachers.

The bus will visit Nation Ford High School in Fort Mill tomorrow from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. before traveling to RE Davis College Preparatory Academy in Sumter from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. On Wednesday, the bus will visit Ridgeview High in Columbia from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. before heading to White Knoll High in Lexington from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The bus is traveling through South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee in partnership with cable provider Spectrum. The tour will also recognize educators for their creative use of resources from C-SPAN Classroom, the network’s free membership service for teachers and students, and their involvement in StudentCam, C-SPAN’s annual documentary competition.

This year’s StudentCam theme, “What does it mean to be American?”, asks students to explain how a constitutional right, national characteristic or historic event defines the American experience.

“We are honored to recognize the work of these outstanding social studies educators,” Craig McAndrew, C-SPAN education relations manager, said in a news release. “We hope to support their continued efforts in developing civically engaged youth.”
