Columbia Rotary Club Elects Glenn Matthews to Serve as President

COLUMBIA, SC – Columbia native, George “Glenn” Matthews III, will serve as President of the Columbia Rotary Club for one year beginning July 1, 2023.

Matthews is a third-generation owner of a 65-year-old family-owned business – Modern Exterminating Company, Inc. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business, Matthews took over as owner and president of Modern Exterminating in 2003.

In 2019, Matthews became Co-owner of Carolina Pest Control, in Irmo, SC when it was acquired by Modern Exterminating. He is also Co-owner of Modern Real Estate, LLC.

Matthews currently serves as President of the South Carolina Pest Control Association and as Chairman of the Sales & Marketing Council of the Building Industry Association (BIA) of Central South Carolina. In 2022, Matthews received the Columbia Chamber of Commerce’s “Small Business of the Year” award on behalf of Modern Exterminating. Prior to becoming president of the Columbia Rotary Club, Matthews has been an avid Rotarian since 2016, serving as a Board Member, Secretary, and Membership Committee Chairman.

Matthews lives in Columbia with his wife, Melanie, Vice President of Modern Exterminating, who is also a member of the Columbia Rotary Club.
