LRADAC received a five-year federal grant worth $2.4 million from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration.

The grant will focus on enhancing and expanding treatment services for substance abuse for transitional youth in Lexington and Richland Counties.

The addiction treatment facility located in Columbia serves adults between the ages of 17-24 who are homeless or unstably housed. In a news release, LARADAC said it will use the funds to provide treatment services to Transitions Homeless Recovery Center, MIRCI and Palmetto Place.

The Department of Justice estimates that more than 1.7 million teens experience homelessness in the U.S. each year.

“Addressing a young person’s substance use gives them hope of starting and maintaining recovery,” Jeremy Martin, LRADAC vice-president of treatment and intervention services, said. “Recovery can help them reach their full potential.”

LRADAC was one of 27 organizations to receive the grant.
