In honor of the South Carolina Small Business Development Centers’ 43-year history of helping small businesses across the state grow and thrive, S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster has proclaimed March 16, 2022 as Small Business Development Centers’ Day.

The proclamation notes that small businesses make up 97% of South Carolina’s employers, making the organization’s support vital in driving the state’s economic growth.

In 2021, the SC SBDC assisted 5,870 individuals, helped create or retain 2,928 jobs, obtained $67.1 million in financing for clients, increased client sales by $54.7 million and helped start 222 new businesses, according to a news release from the organization.

The nationwide SBDC network unites the U.S. Congress and Small Business Administration with the private sector and the colleges, universities and state governments that host small business development centers. The centers provide management and technical assistance to an estimated one million small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs each year.
