MUSC Health announces opening of orthopedic urgent care and expansion of services

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – MUSC Health will open its new orthopedic urgent care clinic on Monday, August 21. The new clinic will be located in the former RMC Express Care, inside the hospital’s annex. The current express care clinic will close on Saturday, August 12, and patients requiring express care services will be directed to the Orangeburg Doctors Care location at 1748 Saint Matthews Road NE.

“With no orthopedic walk-in clinics in the area, patients are currently driving to Charleston or Columbia for care. The addition of orthopedic urgent care means injured patients can receive the immediate care they need, right here in Orangeburg,” said Lucius Craig III, M.D., MUSC Health Orthopedics – Orangeburg.

In addition to the walk-in orthopedic clinic, the space will also be the new home of MUSC Health Orthopedics – Orangeburg. The practice will move from its previous location in the Medical Arts Center on Cook Road and will begin seeing patients at the new location on August 21. The practice is also expanding its services with the addition of two foot and ankle specialists next month.

Providers will continue seeing regularly scheduled patients between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. through 12 noon on Fridays, while the orthopedic urgent care clinic will see walk-in patients ages four and older from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“It’s very practical for all orthopedic services to be located in the same facility. Patients who receive urgent care services will come back to the same team for their follow-up visits, ensuring continuity of care,” said Echo McAlhany, MUSC Health – Orangeburg’s executive director of ambulatory services, “The facility will also serve as the headquarters for our sports medicine program.”
