Solar developer Southern Current is investing $28 million in Ulmer Solar LLC, a new project in Orangeburg County.

Southern Current, a residential, commercial and utility-scale solar developer, manages projects throughout the Southeast, from site selection through construction and operation.

“Southern Current's entire team commends Orangeburg County and its partners on this commitment to harness reliable, cost-effective solar energy for the future,” Paul Fleury, Southern Current's chief development officer, said in a news release. “This $28 million investment will produce a substantial amount of clean energy, which is good for the community and the entire state of South Carolina.”

In March 2017, the Charleston-based company announced a $10 million solar facility in Orangeburg County; Southern Current has invested millions throughout South Carolina, including $10 million in three new projects in Clarendon County and $100 million in a new facility in Chesterfield County.

“The renewable energy market continues to be a major driver of South Carolina's economy, and today's announcement in Orangeburg County is proof of that,” S.C. Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt said.
